Jephthah's sacrifice. The Legacy

Bonifacio day is only one day in the calendar, same with Rizal and Ninoy.

God moves in mysterious ways, he even surprise us unexpectedly. When we offer something to him, maybe our time, money, effort through quiet time, charity, ministry, or foundations, I'm sure he will give us something we won't expect. God's timing of giving his rewards or blessings to us vary, some might experience sudden answered prayers, some need to wait longer, but one thing for sure that his will and plan for us is perfect, it is pleasing, and in accordance to his will. It's the same way when we obey God and staying faithful to him.

In my previous blog we learned the outstanding obedience integrity of Jephthah for offering his daughter to the Lord. [http://normanvincentnormanvincent.blogspot.com/2011/03/sacrifice-abraham-obeyed-jephthah.html] We witnessed the devotion of Jephthah to God and his compliance to the agreement.

"Jephthah made a promise to the Lord, saying, 'If you will hand over the Ammonites to me, I will give you as a burnt offering the first thing that comes out of my house to meet me when I return from the victory. It will be the Lord's.'" Judges 11:30-31 NCV. The war came, and then Jephthah won and gained the victory. Everything's doing fine but "When Jephthah returned to his home.., his daughter was the first one to come out to meet him..." (34.NCV)

It was hard for someone to offer his daughter to Lord, but "..Jephthah did to her what he had promised.." (39.NCV)

What Jephthah didn't know is that his contrite sacrifice will be passed down and remembered through all generations in his nation. "From this came a custom in Israel that40 every year the young women of Israel would go out for four days to remember the daughter of Jephthah from Gilead." (39-40.NCV)

That's for the entire Israel community, that all the girls would just go out and take time to remember the daughter of Jephthah. Holidays based from our National Heroes are celebrated only in one day, but for his daughter it is 4 days. It actually became a custom for them.

Though Jephthah didn't ask or even expecting for it, God gave him the legacy, legacy of remembering his daughter throughout the entire nation of Israel.

Truly, God works and gives awards in unexpected ways.
