Situation
Working in the customer service sector for a long time, I've learned that not all customers are endearing. When someone treats you respectfully, it is only natural to extend the same courtesy. However, it is difficult to love someone who treats you badly.
Someone once questioned me about where I got my enthusiasm, energy, and joy whenever I interacted with people. I gave a different answer to his question. The emphasis is the basis of love and joy of serving the people. If you are not in the mood to serve them cheerfully, the basis may be your feelings or the circumstances. We need something supernatural, not from the natural world, if we wish to serve them no matter how we feel.
This supernatural kind of love is " .. a decision (God's) to keep on loving, regardless of the receiver's lack of response."1 At one point my officemate noticed how I greeted a client where I received no response at all. In the natural realm, observers might perceive that it should hurt. But with the supernatural power living inside of me is still joyful. No matter how they treated me in return, I could still greet and make friends with anyone for as long as I wanted. On my own, I can't do it. On my own, I might get offended little by little. But "Now may the Lord of peace himself give [me] peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with [me]".2 With God, I know I am secure and at peace.
