No man is an island

The second Spiderman movie by Sam Raimi has an implicit reminder of the need for each other as humans when Mary Jane said these words to Peter Parker, "Everybody needs help Peter, even Spiderman." I thought man can live independently and grow maturely alone which technically is possible. But when the author of Genesis says, "The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” 1  (Genesis 2:18) has a different thrust to me, personally.     For years, I witnessed it is possible to live independently. You just have to study hard, work with excellence, be connected with discipleship groups, volunteer, serve, socialize, have fun, and of course, do your devotions. Living independently politically is valid. I'd propose that you can reach greater achievements being alone. But I think like what this verse says, there's something different especially if God was the one who said it.     The same goes for oth...

Role

We meet new people every season in our lives. As time goes on, I realized there were no permanent people or groups that you daily or weekly converse with. People accumulate knowledge and different approaches in life from various perspectives. By nature, they tend to share it with others and sometimes showcase how they were brilliant enough to have gone through the difficulty or proud that they were able to announce how to display their resourcefulness and expect others to follow their advice.      As leaders, we ought to be able to discern what to speak, when and how we deliver it in certain situations to the people we're leading. Our heart for them should align with what the apostle Paul admonishes. He states, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." 1 (1 Corinthians 11:1) Our role as leaders is not to act, and think that we are superior to them but to be role models in helping them to follow Christ in accordance with the bible.  ...

In recent months I tried to re-evaluate how I spend my time. Last semester I felt that I could have done better with my final research papers for different courses if only I could've started earlier, researching, I could have had stronger arguments to put into my paper. The closer I get to the last weeks of the semester I had to start writing my papers for my courses. I tried to evaluate the daily routines and weekly activities that I do regularly both minor and major. On some occasions, I'm still vulnerable to enjoying too much of my time. Before whenever I went to parties or gatherings I was not the first few people of leaving or initiating to leave early. I had to be strategic on those quicksands in my life "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." 1 - Psalm 90:12      Reading the word of God and even worshipping is in different category. The time stops because you are entering with the timeless being who created time itsel...

Are you in or out?

I typed in "blind" at Google under the news tab. The first result that showed up is about "a window blind that doubles as a speaker." 1 The main thing that caught my attention is " the screen is not for projection, but to display information in sync with the music being played. " When I was a kid I didn't what was the main purpose of a window blind, and then I learned that it is just to block the sunlight. I said to myself that, I wouldn't prioritize buying those if I have my own home. But this new invention changed how I view window blinds. The visual impact is powerful when someone looks at it. It affects the mood and behaviour of the person. It might be beneficial for mental health too.     In the bible, there's a man who had been born blind. For decades he didn't have any experience in recognizing and perceiving objects, material things, and people. The way Jesus healed him is radical. His methodology is, "he spit on the groun...
