3 great things driving in EDSA
It's been more than a decade since I last drove in EDSA. For non-Filipinos, the Philippines is known for "no rules in driving" (which I strongly disagree with), and for Filipinos, EDSA is the scariest place to drive (I also disagree). Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.”1 God is at work in our beloved EDSA. We Filipinos ought to be proud not because of our work but because of God's faithfulness, which is evident in EDSA.
1. Structure (Physical Realm). I realized that there are no buses anymore on the outer lane. There's a designated lane exclusive for the bus. It made my driving smoother and I just had to focus in my lane. Swerving decreased in general. This is a milestone. A great improvement in the overall system of the traffic on the highway. I found it easier to navigate to my path and destination.2. Staff (Character of the people). I knew I'm not allowed to pass through the double yellow lane but in the back of my head "I'm hoping that no one sees me, oh God please.. allow me just to do this because I don't want to make a U-turn and drive all the way from the start". I confessed that I committed a violation. I passed through the two lanes and thought it would be alright. Lo, and behold, and young gentleman (MMDA enforcer) appeared in my sight waving. Initially, I and my father was humbled down pleading if we can just have a warning. But he was adamant to give us a violation. We tried and tried apologizing we haven't been driving in EDSA for years. He couldn't let us go. I was impressed by his integrity and knew he was just doing his job. If I were in his shoes, I would do the same. There were several situations in my profession where I had to stand my ground as far as the company that I worked for is concerned.
3. Scripture (Spiritual aspect). Bible passages are found everywhere along EDSA. An ordinary person has a tendency to take its impact for granted. "so is my word that comes from my mouth; it does not return to me empty. Instead, it does what I want, and accomplishes what I intend."2 (Isaiah 55:11).
Let's bless our nation by speaking and broadcasting what our almighty God is doing! As we tell great wonders to the current and next generation we are re-educating their minds of how faithful God is.
