Book Review: Thanking God with Integrity by Willard Metzger

This entry is a tribute to Jomel Dalusong who gave me the book.

The book is about a list of short prayers appropriate for meals. Each prayer has a bible passage that could be meditated upon. The prayers are divided into three sections: Hunger, Emergency Relief, and Creation Care. The book is meant to be read while doing the prayer before the meal. It is not designed to read the book in one sitting.

I like the pictures associated with different types of scriptures towards the end. Some might be intentional. It could also serve as one's devotion for the day. The strength of the book is the creative way of composing the prayers for meals. Whenever I pray for a meal whether individual or communal I tend to say the same things again and again with just different wordings. I never thought of a wide variety of compositions of prayers. The only weakness that I can think of is some prayers are repetitive. The content of the prayer is there and there is a tendency to be repeated.

Overall, this book is recommended for those who want to explore different types of prayers before eating. Whether you are a long-time follower of Christ or a new believer this booklet is a good way to start practicing the habit of prayer. I rate this, 7.6 out of 10. It is in the good zone because of its conciseness, and clear bible passages.
