The father, the son, and the gym

As I was staring at the door, an unusual incident happened in my daily routine. A kid walked in front of me and asked for his father. I greeted him and asked where his parents were. He mentioned that he was left in the car and his battery died. He wanted to look for his father inside of our facility. We instructed him to wait, as they are not allowed to go inside as a non-member. I then went to look for his father. But his father was nowhere to be found. I went to the men's washroom and checked the locker area, shower rooms, and sauna. I still could not find his father. I went back to the waiting area and saw the kid sitting inside our facility. He stood up and in a split second, he immediately found his father! He exclaimed with passion, "That's my dad!"
The moment he said that I thought about where I went wrong. How come I wasn’t able to find his father? Did I miss something? I was confident that I remembered his face from the picture, and besides, I see the father every day. He is one of our patrons. I'm way taller than the kid and the range of my vision is way broader than him. I'm also more familiar with the structure and floor plan of our gym. But why was the kid able to recognize his father in the shortest period of time?

It reminds me of this verse: "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."1 - John 10:27. John is portraying Jesus as the one who shepherds his sheep. The sheep know their master's voice. They can easily recognize his voice. They are quick to know who their shepherd is and even know when a voice is fake. When they are lost in the woods they can turn to the direction of the voice.
The kid has a relationship with his father. They have a connection and intimate bond. If the kid is ever lost in a noisy crowd, he can quickly distinguish his father's voice, despite hundreds of voices.
We, all are God's sons and daughters. We are his sheep and he is our shepherd. Do we acknowledge him as our father and our shepherd? Can we exclaim with passion, "He is my dad!"?

  1. What a story! Thank you for sharing your insight, Norman! if we know deep in our hearts that we acknowledge Him as our father, we will hear His voice, indeed!
