Different
Upon receiving the invitation I was looking forward to catching up with the treasured people in that community. I was excited to taste the food and enjoy the desserts. I imagined the laughter and stories that we ought to share with one another. Of course, who wouldn't want to be entertained with the games and special presentations in the program? I wanted to hear again from the words of Pastor Fer specifically on that occasion. There's one thing that I least expected or I didn't expect that the bride and bridegroom did. It set a new way on how I can view a God-honoring marriage from now on and I considered that the highlight of the ceremony. They honoured their parents in front of everyone.
I attended several weddings but I couldn't recall if there were people who did what they did. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." (Genesis 2:24)1 "Leave" here means that you will have your own decision as one person regardless of your parents may or may not approve it. You still listen to their wisdom and recommendations in life but the final decision is always between you and God.
Other cultures strongly depend on making decisions based on how they've been brought up or even according to family traditions. There are advantages to following that, but nothing supersedes the marriage covenant that they made before God.
